Musical advent calendar, door two

Advent Calendar, door 2: On of the most moving moments of the year was definitely the first concert in my hometown Hamburg, that was dedicated to my works, on February 11 in a wonderful church in Hamburg-Volksdorf. The concert was initiated by the Flutes en bloc, the trio that has played, recorded and promoted my pieces now for 26 years. It was a special joy that my old professor from the music university, Christoph Schönherr, was in the audience as well as my old friend Michael Krebs, who is now one of the most famous and succesful piano comedians of the country. He took the photos I posted on Facebook today (link below). Thank you, Michael!

Musical Advent Calendar, Door 1

Advent Calendar, Door 1: Like last year I want to present some highlights of the year in my musical advent calendar. I start with the latest news: The recorder orchestra of the faboulous Tsai-yen Chen has won the first round of the Taiwan Recorder Orchestra competition - with a Divertimento from Mozart and the second and third movement of my 4th African Suite Vitambo vya moyo! We had the chance to work on the pieces together during my workshop in Hsinchu on the first of July. You can watch their performance in the Hsinchu City hall at November 21 in a video I posted on Facebook (see button below). The second movement, Kinyongo (Melancholy), starts at 4:15, Jamboree (celebration of joy) starts at 7:34. Please notice that they play everything by heart! My congratulations to all the talented young players, to wonderful Tsai-Yen, and I wish you all good luck for the final next march!

Braunschweig

Yesterday the Recorder Orchestra RECORDING GENERATIONS performed the first movement of my African Suite No. 21 TOMO TOMO during their concert in the big hall of the state theatre of Braunschweig. They just won the First Prize in the Category Ensemble in Trossingen with Vivaldi, Meijering and my piece. It was fantastic!

Concert in Plön

I am very happy to announce the 5th concert dedicated to my works this year! After Hamburg, Paris, Hsinchu and Taipei there will be a concert on November 4 in the beautiful Rokoko Prinzenhaus in Plön! Including the European Premieres of Illuminated Inside and Consolation. I am looking very much forward to it, especially to playing Illuminated Inside with my old friend Ebba Künning-Zeijl at the Recorder and me at the piano. Hope to see you there!

Music and Pictures

I wish to thank the Ensemble Elb'an Flutes and Philine Zadow for the very special event on Saturday: they played my first two African Suites, Djaboué and pina ya phala, and the Gallery showed the pictures Philine Zadow painted ABOUT my music. Amazing pictures! You can see some of them on my FB page, and soon here. I am really thrilled by this art-to-art-translation! The concert will be repeated in the Kulturschloss Wandsbek, 28.10. at 8pm!

Premiere

Many, many thanks to the Boreas Quartet from Bremen, who played a brilliant Premiere of my 20th African Suite IXESHA on Saturday, September 23, at the ERTA-Congress in Michaelstein! In October we will shoot a music video from the piece. And now I am looking forward to visit my old friend, the great double-bass player Marcin Oles in Krakow to record my two African Suites for Double Bass Solo!

Taipei

What a travel! For ten days I was invited to the world capital of the Recorder, Taiwan. I gave a master class to more than 150 recorder students in Hsinchu, and there were two concerts dedicated to my pieces, on the second of July in Hsinchu and on the third of July in Taipei. Just look at the photos on my Facebook page. It was overwhelming! Soon there will be many videos on Youtube. Now I am looking forward to the Premiere of my 20th African Suite IXESHA by the famous Boreas Quartet at the ERTA-Congress in Michaelstein on the 23th of September. Hope to see you there!

Premiere in Taiwan

I would like to thank the recorder orchestra NORDWIND, conducted by Antje Susanne Kopp, for the great Premiere of my new work UMOYA (Wind) on Saturday in Hamburg. Now something very special is expecting me: a workshop and two concerts in Taiwan! I will give a Masterclass at the first of July in Hsinchu, Chupei City. The concerts will be on the 2nd July in in Hsinchu and on the third of July in the KHS Music Hall in New Taipei City. During the two concerts, that are dedicated to my works, I will do the Premiere of my 18th African Suite Imibala yenyabulo (The colors of Happiness) for solo recorder and piano with Meng-Heng Chen. I am looking forward to it!

What a weekend!

What a weekend! I wish to thank the Emsemble Tastissimo for the Premiere of my piece THE CIRCLE for eight hands at two pianos in Oldenburg on Saturday and the Flanders Recorder Quartet for the wonderful performance of INXAXHEBA on sunday in Bamberg at the presentation of their new and last CD FIVE. You can order and buy the CD here on this website - it contains a breathtaking recording of the 16th African Suite, I wrote for them. And now I am looking forward to the Premiere of UMOYA (wind) on coming saturday (24th of June) by the recorder orchestra NORDWIND in Hamburg, conducted by Antje Susanne Kopp!

Uraufführung in Oldenburg

I am proud to announce that the Ensemble TASTISSIMO will do the Premiere of my piece THE CIRCLE for eight hands at two pianos the next Saturday (17.6.) in the long night of the Music in Oldenburg! You listen to the piece at this moment here.
I am also looking forward to the Flanders Recorder Quartet: they will present their latest and last album this Sunday (18.6.) in Bamberg. It contains my African Suite No. 16 INXAXHEBA - a great recording! Of course I will be there in Oldenburg as well as in Bamberg!
